i've got the itch

you know what it feels like -- when you start looking around the house and your thoughts run wild with rearranging, reorganizing, redoing, repainting, just your basic REs.  here's what's currently on my mind...

rowdy has a romping problem.  a certified across-the-sofa, knocking every pillow over, squishing the back cushions, general loss of dog-sense romping problem.

considering the likelihood of my letting go and just accepting a messy sofa situation is improbable, and we all know rowdy isn't going anywhere b/c he's a dog prodigy, a leather sectional seems to present the best solution to control the romp.  i really want the one they have in the apartment on new girl (no shame, brian meares and i love that show), but i can't find anything anywhere about it, so i think i'll just have one made through our furbish supplier here in nc that will generally resemble this restoration hardware one.

that takes care of that.

in close proximity is the cow hide problem.  it's seen better days.

and i'm all for worn and torn, but this guy is one vacuum away from needing a comb over.  i think we've had it for at least 8 years, so it's certainly earned it's keep but it hasn't always been all dead cows and ponies and rainbows - there have been shortcomings.  dirt just sits on it, and brian meares has this way of being sort of oafish with his feet and mussing up anything that's not permanently affixed to the floor, so it's always janked up around the corners.  lastly, it sucks to lay on, and i've taken to posting up on the floor for my jane fonda leg lifts at night -- i just want something soft to cuss into when my plank starts to plummet.

i think an oriental somethingoranother is in order, which will put one in just about every room in my house, but there's something to be said for consistency, right?

i've never regretted painting the room red.  i did it before we even moved in, it took 36 coats, and my inspiration was a page in a west elm catalog, but it's proven to be timeless, at least in my ADD-addled space-time continuum of decorating.  happy with the window panels and roman shades, happy with the grassclothed ceiling, and fine with the red clunker of a dresser serving as a bureau.  in conclusion: happy with the body, just need to switch out the engine and transmission -- oh sure.

moving into the hallway... i had my fun with the red zebras but the problem has always been the scale.  it's just too small a space to contain their full-bodied zebra glory.

and it would be one thing if i'd let the statement wallpaper make it's statement, but lord knows i'm gonna stack shit on a shelf until there's no room left to stack.  every surface in our house is a sitting duck for an objet of some kind of jazz i found at the beach, or in an antiques shop or in my attic, or in your attic.  so i can either wallpaper the whole hallway in zeeb, or just do something smaller in the back of the bar.

this.

that's what i want.  animals drinking cocktails on angsty black paper.

lastly, the bed frame in our bedroom.

i really do enjoy the canopy.  it's architectural statement defines our sleeping area in the loft and adds some drama to the space.  but i've had it since i was a junior in college, and that mess is rickety as hell.   as soon as i was out of the dorm, i was online ordering the bed, a bigger than necessary framed clockwork orange poster, and faux fur zebra curtains.  the bed's the only thing still around (plus brian meares), and i'll tell you the truth, there is now duct tape involved.  it's a bad situation.  the metal is rusting, the frame squeaks every time you turn over (imagine the discord during sexy-time --well... don't) and there are 3" long screws sticking out underneath that pose a problem when rowdy hears thunder.

i'm thinking the next version needs to be wood.  sturdier.  quieter!  plus the room needs another finish in the mix.  considering this one from anthro:

so, that's the news.  i'm just reporting it.
